From Stresa to Nervi ...

Well, perhaps this busy drive should be called "From Stressy to Nervy"!  The multi tunneled (there are more than 100) Genoa autostrada full of lorries isn't for the faint of heart - but hey - Barbara isn't. (Nervi is a part of Genoa)

After Gotthard, we spent the night in the charming village of Cannobio on the shores of Lago di Maggiore.  Then, on Wednesday, we travelled through the larger town of Stresa - all Victorian era hotels, the Orient Express and tales of Hemingway ...

In the event, the Genoa road wasn't too bad, and after La Spezia, we left the motorway, and headed down the twisty but quiet (and slow!) road down the Garfagnana valley.

Better weather on the Italian side ...
Harbour, Cannobio - Alps in distance

Next day - still sunny!

Stresa - ferry terminal - no time for a trip unfortunately

Stresa - Barbara pretends to be a guest at the Grand Hotel des Borromees and its lovely ...

... gardens
Genoa Autostrada - hurtling towards another tunnel  -
Stromness to Kirkwall it ain't

Sanity - the Apuan Alps at the entry to the Garfagnana valley

More sanity - the Garfagnana valley opens up before us

The scene this morning - it can only get better!
