Zeebrugge - Obernai - St Gotthard Pass

The trip across the North Sea wasn't as bad as expected, and the ship docked on time.  The trip via Belgium, Luxembourg and France to Obernai was pretty busy - lorries and that, and the weather was "mixed", but we got through it, and enjoyed an evening in the strikingly quaint town of Obernai in the Alsace.

Today, Tuesday, we travelled to Lake Maggiore via the St Gotthard pass - rather than the tunnel.  The Gotthard tunnel is a very busy, bleak and dreary affair - but at least the pass is not underground, although today it was very cold and well - bleak!

Zeebrugge - looking remarkably like Hull.  It's sunny - well, that didn't last!

Alpine rocks in all their grim grandeur

At the top - a grand place for a car-picnic!
