Hill Climb - Part 2

Some more pictures from our day on the Pania della Croce in the Alpi Apuane.

Looking south, to Monte Croce and beyond where Lucca and Florence lie - the Pania is visible from both of them

The wooded hills on the western slopes, towards the sea

Looking north - the white patches are the marble quarries above Carrara

Looking south-east - Elba and other islands visible

Having a breather on the way down ...

In the middle distance, a lone climber tries an alternative route ...

Autumn colours in the more homely surroundings of the rifugio

The shadows lengthen as we head down past the barren slopes of the Pania Secca

The sloes were ornamented with clumps of blaeberry in autumn garb

Back home in time to see a lovely placid sunset over our newly conquered hill!
