Time for Betty to leave ...

The time has gone in a flash, and on Thursday Betty caught her flight for Edinburgh. On Wednesday, we paid a visit to the restaurant at the Eremo di Calomini .  It is attached to a trout farm, so it's a rare place in our area where fish is always on the menu!

For our evening meal, we walked into town for a late gelato.  On the way, we were enthralled to see a swarm of bats swirling and wheeling above our heads, as they left their roost and prepared for their night-long insect feast.  None of us had ever seen such a display.

The charming wild cyclamen which are everywhere at this time of year

Keeping cool on the terrace high above the valley floor

Looking down at the trout farm just visible at the bottom

Not much of a photo, but these are the bats! (the video was better!) There are six in the picture, but there were probably about 5 times that number in all
Betty waves farewell to La Serra, as we prepare to go down to the train for Lucca, and onward to Pisa

  1. Great to seeyou hosting Betty. I liked your attempt to show the bats. Wish I'd been there too.
