A ramble at Perpoli

After a poor spell of weather, yesterday dawned fine and dry and sunny (today we are back to Scotch mist ...), so we drove across the valley to Fiattone for the easy uphill walk to Perpoli.

Still a very wintry scene - spring was put on hold (or worse) by the Siberian weather ...

Looking back to Fiattone, where we had parked the car. Grape vines still very much dormant.  Barga somewhere in the distance...

There was a lot of tree felling going on.  These, unusually, are pines.  They show what a tree can do in 40 years in the right conditions ...

From Perpoli, many hill villages can be seen across the Serchio valley - this is Trepignana (I think ...)

With temperatures rising to 16°C or so, this was the first time since autumn that we've seen lizards again - this one on the roof of the pizza oven
