Another trip to Carregine

Just before our trip to Venice (see next blog post), we nipped up to the woods around Carregine again, before all the leaves leave.

On the way home, we went into the hamlet of Colle - a(nother) lovely old village perched on a ridge high above the valley of the Serchio.

A Red Admiral on the terrace before we set off

Big chestnut trees felled in the woods

Barbara looks around a metato (chestnut kiln) which has been set up as a museum piece

A Peacock butterfly in Careggine- not rare, but neither of us have ever seen one before

A winding street in Colle
A reminder of how old these villages are ...
The Appenines seen from Colle in the waning daylight
