Arezzo 2

More pics from our stay in Arezzo.  We went to see some more works by Piero della Francesca in the Basilica of San Francesco - the church and frescoes featured in the English Patient - book and film.

We also visited the Fraternita dei Laici - an ancient charity, still functioning, whose original building (1375) houses an astronomical clock dating from 1550, and still working.  (We enjoyed its ancient chimes all through the night!).

The family-run osteria where we ate on Thursday night

Fresco by Piero della Francesca which, for its time - 1460 - was revolutionary in its composition and execution

Fraternita dei Laici - the old building, in the far corner of the square

Palazzo Communale - serving the citizens of Arezzo since 1333

The main square - our window is is first on the right with curved top

A wonderful sunset awaited us back in Barga (this is Marijke's photo which was better than mine!)
